Doing laundry is not my favorite chore, but when you have the washer and dryer right next to you in your unit...well the job is a lot more pleasant, and not so bad after all. Unfortunately, in Chicago we do not have a washer and dryer in our apartment. When we bought the unit we were told that there would not be a problem to install one. Once we got the apartment we were then told a whole different story. Long story short, we cannot install a washer and dryer in the unit.

Once we got the apartment we were then told a whole different story. Long story short, we cannot install a washer and dryer in the unit. The building is made up of approximately 1000 apartments. We live on the 25th floor, and to do laundry we have to go all the way down to the 2nd floor. Normally this would not be to my liking, but somehow we have managed to make it a fairly relaxing chore.
Of course, both Arvid and I go down together. He insists he must go with me. We try to do laundry on Sundays since the elevators are not tied up as they are during the week. Sunday is a good day to get many chores taken care of leaving the rest of the week free to do whatever else may come along.
Stacking everything up in a cart and away we go. Arvid loves to get involved and I like to see him work. We have come to not mind going down to do laundry. There are over 30 washing machines and same with dryers of different sizes. There is never a wait for anything. If for some reason we decided to wait in the laundry room while the clothes are washing, I can watch TV on the 54inch screen plasma TV, or I can read all the gossip magazines donated by other owners in the building. If I should get thirsty, there is a vending machine with sodas and snacks. To top it off there is also a coffee machine selling all kinds of specialty cafes. Not too shabby for a laundry room. Makes you think you are someplace other than the laundry room.
Can't say I look forward with anticipation to doing laundry, but on the other hand it could have been worse. Best of all, there is a dry cleaners right outside the laundry room. No reason now to have wrinkled clothes!
I do know I am happy once the laundry is all done. A must is Brutus sleeping on the warm sheets once we bring them up.

Like I always say, whatever we do we always see the bright side of things. This way any chore can become "fun" even though, no matter how many house chores you complete, there are always more to be done.Have a good day all.
