You never know what you can do until you try,
and very few try unless they have to...
Boy I sure did quite a bit in the last couple of days.
When I got back home I was so tired, but a good tired.
I had 2 days on my own to do anything I liked and
I had 2 days on my own to do anything I liked and
I sure made the most of it I did exactly what
I wanted and tried a little of everything.
I had quite a few delicious drinks. Thank goodness
I stayed in a hotel that was walking distance to all
I wanted and needed I started out the day with a trip to
Las Olas Blvd. You can’t go wrong with that.
My first stop of course was at Hollywood Donut. Ever
since trying it I just could not get the taste out of my mouth.
It was good, but not as good a I remembered. Now if I want a
“Hollywood Donut.” Dunkin Donut tastes exactly the same.
When I left home the weather was beautiful, but as I
neared Fort Lauderdale the skies opened up. Those who
know Florida weather know it only lasted a short time.
Although it happened too often. No matter what, I had a
great time and that was just the start of my mini getaway.
As I had mentioned, it was also part business that
brought me here, but the bigger part was the fun part.
I have never had so many different drinks in such a
short time frame. Miracle I am still standing, but
I have to say I also had the best sleep I have
had in ages. Would do it again in a flash.
What I loved was just sitting out in the evening by
the beach attached to the hotel. There was music, but there
was also so much peacefulness. Loved hearing the waves
and seeing the sway of the palm trees. Of course sipping on
a good old fashioned mojito made everything even better.
I had drinks by the beach coffee/breakfast as well,
it was just a perfect time. I did things I loved. I
loved the feeling of the sand between my toes.
It was pretty windy on the last day as you can see
from these pictures. Just my hair alone tells a story.
Sadly the water was too rough for swimming,
but perfect to feel the splashing of the waves.
The guy with the metal detector was having a blast.
He even told me of all the goodies he has found.
Boy after hearing about his findings I feel
as if this would be a great hobby. Hmm..
What would Florida be like in the summer if a storm
was not brewing? And brewing it was and still is. The
sky was black and the potential of massive flooding was
already a big possibility. That being said I knew it was
time to take off and head back home. I got soaked
just filling gas in the car. In a way it was pretty funny.
The rain drops felt like sharp needles prickling my skin.
Yeah was pretty strong rain and even stronger winds.
Back home the skies were dark but the rain did
not come, but I know it's coming. Sniff of course
was all happy to see me once again my little buddy
never leaves my side 🩵. Yeah life is good and I’m
always thankful for all the blessing it has give me.
In Las Olas I saw a little squirrel. He was starved
and looked almost like he was dying. His body
was transparent. I have never seen anything like this.
Totally freaked me out. The kids passing by just
kept scaring the poor thing all the time.
For some reason I had brought with me a bag of peanuts.
The ones I buy to feed the squirrels on my walks. I left
quite a bit for the little dude who came down from his tree
and just ate and ate. I also went to the restaurant
and got a little cup to give him water.
I had a bottle of water with me. I know this won’t
solve his hunger problem but I know that on that day
he had foodies and water. I have never seen a squirrel
looking as if he were dying. That image keeps haunting
me. I just can't seem to erase it from my mind right now.
I chose to stay in a much talked about hotel tucked away
in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea and if I had to do it again I would.
It has the cutest beach bar and the friendlies waiters.
The hotel has a very different interior as you can see here.
I had so much food and so many drinks that I
now feel as if I have gained an additional 5 pounds.
But boy it was all worth it. Food is my weakness.
It was a perfect little getaway storm or no storm I had a blast.
I had a very good time, but I was also even happier to be back home.
You will enrich your life immeasurably if you
approach it with a sense of wonder and discovery,
and always challenge yourself to try new things...
