San Francisco: Where the Pacific’s chill meets urban thrill...
"San Francisco is the golden handcuff with the key
thrown away." There are so many "must see" must do"
when going to San Francisco, at least there was for me. One of
the places I knew for sure I would have to see was Alcatraz.
Alcatraz. Island of Incarceration, Island of Freedom
Alcatraz reveals stories of American incarceration, justice,
and our common humanity. This small island was once a fort,
a military prison, and a maximum security federal penitentiary.
In 1969, the Indians of All Tribes occupied Alcatraz for 19 months
in the name of freedom and Native American civil rights.
The history withing these walls is amazing. It's
an experience, even if you're not a history fan. Jennifer
and I we were fascinated with The Morgue. She even had a
peek at my suggestion to see if we could spot something.
United States Penitentiary, Alcatraz Island,
also known simply as Alcatraz, or The Rock, was a
maximum security federal prison on Alcatraz Island.
Prison corridors were named after major U.S. streets,
such as Broadway and Michigan Avenue, of New York and
Chicago, respectively. It was also the most windy of days.
There is so much to see and learn here in Alcatraz.
I have to say that Jennifer and I got a little distracted and
took off on our own. We may have missed a little of the history
lesson, but we sure had a great time exploring on our own.
The prison closed in 1963, but Alcatraz was reopened as a public museum.
If I did go back to San Francisco and I really hope to,
Alcatraz would not be on my to do list anymore. You see it
once and you have your fill. But when in SF it's a must.
Yesterday I met Max and Kelsey downtown Fort Myers.
I treated us all to lunch. Always good catching up with Max
and K. Always something interesting going on there.
Kelsey and I had delicious adult drinks. Max was
their designated driver so he had to keep a clear perspective as
he said. Food was also good, but best was the company.
Happy Sunday to all. If I can still walk
who knows what the day can hold 😂
Do not ever stop thinking of life as an adventure...
