Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show..

It's not the ship so much as the skillful sailing that assures the prosperous
voyage.  Life provides the wind.  You control the direction of your sail...

Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the "Yachting Capital of the World" will host the 57th
Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show starting November 3rd -Nov 7th, 2016. Show
exhibits range from yacht builders and designers to exotic cars and brokerage yachts.

Fort Lauderdale, known as The Venice of America, and here is why.
It was a masterstroke of marketing.  In the 1920s, progress across Broward County
was booming.  Courthouses, hotels, bridges and emporiums arose.  Homes were built
in theregion's unique Mediterranean Revival style.  Development was taking its
first wobbly stepsas mangrove swamps in eastern Fort Lauderdale were
dredged to create finger island subdivisions for new landowners.

Seeing all this, New York investor J.C. Turner uttered the words that would become
part of the city's seal: "Lauderdale should be called the Venice of America"  And so begins
the "story"  Venice itself has more canals than Fort Lauderdale, 177 compared to
Fort Lauderdales 165, but then Fort Lauderdale is way larger with 36 square
miles compared to Venice whose city limits spans but 3 to 4 square miles.

At this year's boat show just like in previous years,  a wide variety of boats will be on
display including runabouts, sportfishers, high performance boats, center consoles,
cabin cruisers, flats boats, skiffs, express cruisers, sailing yachts, motor yachts,
bowriders, catamarans, ski boats, jet boats, trawlers, inflatables, canoes,
and extraordinary superyachts. This is exactly where you want to be.

If you wish to have a day filled with sunshine and to see mega luxury yachts,
then you have to go.  There is usually live music in the afternoons, food and many
bars serving all sorts of drinks.  It makes for a very good outing.

Arvid and I will not be going to the show this year.  Unfortunately, we have taken a few
things for granted.  Such as having a great day seeing beautiful yachts and enjoying
the warm weather surrounded by Mega Yachts.  Yes, we have seen it quite a lot.
As some would say, "been there done that"  Even so, it is a wonderful sight
for everyone in the boat business and many who just love boats.

Unfortunately the traffic is horrendous, but it's the price we pay for
living in the Sunshine State.  Definitely we can deal with it.

Happiness is when you feel good about yourself
without feeling the need for anyone else's approval.
Shells sink.  Dreams float.  Life's good on  our boat...
