Do not regret getting older. It is a privilege denied to many.
Happy Birthday to me and to all with birthdays today...
Many years ago today I was born. I don't remember many of my birthdays before the age of
fourteen. We did not have much and by the time I was 4 years old, my parents had gone to seek
a better life for me and my 3 other sisters. At that time Rima was not in the picture.
I don't have many pictures of me nor my sisters as babies or little girls. The few
that I have I cherish and in this one we are in Guyana with my grandmother. My mom's
mother. Ma as we called her took care of us for 4 years while my parents sought a better
life for us. Being away from mom and dad was difficult. Being the eldest it affected me most.
My grandmother was the best. She took care of us like we were her very own. We had
everything we needed. In Guyana, when it was our birthday I do remember that it was a treat
to have an egg. We did not have much in those days so an egg on your birthday was special.
The four of us were inseparable. I took care of my sisters and always made sure
no one ever messed with them. Mom and dad not being there it was my responsibility.
The years have gone by fast. One day I was a little girl. Life has show thrown me many
obstacles. Luckily I have survived them. Some have made me stronger others have
made me question the why of things, but in it all I think I have grown into a much
better person today than I was years ago. Nothing like first hand experience to
make one grow up FAST! Life is the best teacher there is.
Someone said to me a long time ago, happiness is not the absence of problems,
it's the ability to deal with them. We all learn to deal with life's problems.
We have to otherwise we would all be lost souls.
As I celebrate another year of like I look back at all the things that have happened.
Not only in my life, but in the lives of my sisters and my parents. I am sure everyone
has a story they can tell, and I am sure everyone has seen some dark times.
Truth is with a loving family a their unconditional love we always bounce back. I am
fortunate to have a wonderful support system and a family that no matter where or when
is always there. My parents no matter the distance or the time will and have always
been there. My sisters are not only my sisters, but also my best friends.
In times of sadness we are there for each other no matter our differences. Like I am
sure it is with most families. Arvid is my soul mate with whom life is an everyday
adventure. One I never wish to end. Brutus is our baby who just makes our
world a better place. With 2 step-kids and two grand daughters
I know I have everything in life. How lucky can one get?
My birthday wish for everyone is that you continue to love life and never stop dreaming.
May beauty and happiness surround you, not only on your special day, but always.
Count the age, not the wrinkles you have. Count the blessings and the
wonderful experiences you've had, not the mistakes you've made...
