Watching your daughter being collected by her date feels like handing over a million dollar Stradivarius to a gorilla....
I came across this on Facebook and it made me remember the days when we were living at home and just starting out to date. The guys never stood a chance. Five girls, no boys...just my dad. For me it was much simpler to skip the entire dating process, concentrate on school and college. So much easier and at that time I really did not want to date.
I remember once going to the movies with my "date" That went fine. It's everything else that got complicated. My dad was there to meet him before and after the movies. My dad had to meet every and anyone we went out with. Luckily there were not many.
After lots of threats and swinging of the machete, hints of bodily injury, and once we were back home I believe my dad knew more about my dates life, background, education and future plans and goals in life. Of course we also had a German Shepherd dog who was by my dad's side at all times snarling at my date.
...and yes, never saw the date again, which was OK.
For a while I decided to put a hold on my dating life...never looked back and never had any regrets. My dad is one of a kind and I love the fact that he never gave in just because it was the easiest thing to do...we are all better persons because of that.
Thanks daddy for being my dad and for setting rules! The greatest gift I ever had Come from God, and I call him Dad! It was my father who taught me to value myself. He told me that I was uncommonly beautiful and that I was the most precious thing in his life....
